Sustainability

IIP invests in private equity fund commitments and co-investments. We recognize that such investment decisions may have environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts and are committed to identifying, assessing, and mitigating these throughout the investment lifecycle.
Because ESG risks that go unaddressed can also pose a threat to long-term investment performance, we view ESG as an integral part of sound risk management and value creation. Rather than limiting returns, a strong ESG approach enables us to identify and manage material risks and opportunities – ultimately supporting attractive, risk-adjusted returns for our investors.
How we invest
Our analysis focuses on the fund manager, the fund’s strategy, policies and processes, in-house ESG resources, and the fund manager’s historical investment decisions and practices. We assess the fund manager’s ability to identify and manage material ESG risks, and whether the investment aligns with IIP’s exclusion list.
ESG findings from the due diligence process feed directly into the investment assessment. We evaluate the significance of identified risks and the strength of the fund manager’s governance and risk-management practices.
We follow ESG developments through ongoing discussions with fund managers, participating in AGMs and LPAC meetings. The focus is on material risks, governance practices, and how fund managers respond to issues raised during due diligence or identified over time.
We collect ESG data annually from our fund managers in line with SFDR requirements and the EDCI framework. This helps us monitor developments in our underlying portfolio, strengthen transparency, and meet regulatory expectations.
IIP’s ESG approach is guided by internationally recognized standards, including the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct.
These standards shape our expectations for fund managers and portfolio companies, particularly regarding corporate governance, environmental management, labour rights, business ethics, and human rights. They also underpin our exclusion criteria and inform how we assess the link between sustainability-related financial risks and the potential adverse impacts of our investments.
